Federal Judge Orders Virginia Voter Registration Reopened

by Lee Hernly, Editor

A federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia has ordered the re-opening of voter registration in Virginia immediately due to the Monday incident where a Virginia Department of Elections computer server(s) crashed at 3:00 p.m. through the October 17 midnight deadline for applications to vote in the Nov. 8 election.

The crash potentially blocked some would-be voters from registering. A civil rights group had filed a federal lawsuit against Virginia election officials after the Monday crash.

Senior Judge Claude M. Hilton order is viewed as a remedy for the voters that may not have registered yet. Judge Hilton ordered voter registration reopened effective immediately and registration is to be kept open until 11:59 p.m. Friday.
