Virginia ABC Store at Alexandria Commons Closes for Remodeling

by Lee Hernly, Editor

With more than half a million people living within a five-mile radius, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) store in Alexandria Commons Shopping Center has seen quite a bit of traffic since it opened in 2001. It’s time for a few improvements.

The 2,400-square-foot Alexandria store, located at 3161 Duke St., closed on Saturday, July 22, and will reopen at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 7, after an extensive remodeling. The project will include the installation of new store fixtures, the addition of almost 100 linear feet of shelving to accommodate the store’s more than 2,000 product offerings, new flooring and a fresh coat of paint.

“After 16 years of serving a busy and constantly growing metropolitan area, the store needs an upgrade,” said Virginia ABC Director of Real Estate and Facilities Management Susan Johnson. “The refurbished store will provide a more efficient and pleasant shopping experience for our Alexandria customers.”

During the closure, nearby Virginia ABC stores located at 4349 Duke St. and in the Bradlee Shopping Center at 3678 King St., both in Alexandria, will be open for business.

For customer convenience, a searchable list of Virginia ABC’s 366 retail outlets—including brands and quantities of spirits available at each location—can be found on the agency’s updated website. Customers may also order spirits online for delivery to the store of their choice.
