Coastal Flood Advisory for Alexandria, Virginia Labor Day Weekend

1340132607_8890_roflbotA Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from the National Weather Service for the metropolitan Washington area, including the City of Alexandria, Virginia until 9:00 AM Sunday, September 3, 2017.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is issued when minor or nuisance coastal flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal Flood Advisories are issued for coastal areas along the Tidal Potomac River and areas along the Chesapeake Bay.

…COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EDT SUNDAY…

* LOCATIONS…SHORELINE IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND ARLINGTON COUNTY AND THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE…1.5 TO 2.0 FEET ABOVE NORMAL.

* TIMING…WITHIN A COUPLE HOURS OF HIGH TIDE TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. HIGH TIDE AT WASHINGTON CHANNEL IS AT 629 PM THIS
EVENING AND 642 AM SUNDAY. HIGH TIDE AT ALEXANDRIA IS AT 647 PM THIS EVENING AND 700 AM SUNDAY.

* IMPACTS…SHORELINE INUNDATION IS EXPECTED ALONG PORTIONS OF THE SEAWALL ADJACENT TO OHIO DRIVE AND THE HAINS POINT LOOP
ROAD. WATER IS EXPECTED TO APPROACH THE CURB NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF KING STREET AND STRAND STREET IN ALEXANDRIA.
MINOR SHORELINE INUNDATION IS POSSIBLE ELSEWHERE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY INDICATES THAT ONSHORE WINDS AND TIDES WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE FLOODING OF LOW AREAS ALONG THE SHORE.
