The National Weather Service has extended the Wind Chill Advisory for Alexandria, Virginia and the surrounding area from Friday into Saturday. The extension is starting TONIGHT (January 5, 2018) at 6:00 PM and running through 12:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2018. A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when wind chills are expected to drop the temperature below zero degrees and an active frostbite condition exists.

* WHAT…Very cold wind chills expected. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
Expect wind chills to range from 0 to 10 below zero.
* WHERE…The Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area, northern and central foothills and Piedmont of Virginia, and southern Maryland.
* WHEN…For the Wind Chill Advisory, until noon EST today…and again from 6 PM this evening to noon EST Saturday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS….Gusty winds expected today. Northwest winds will average between 15 and 25 mph with gusts 40 to 45
mph. The highest gusts will be across the Washington and Baltimore Metropolitan areas into southern Maryland.
