AFD: Crews Respond to Early Morning Fire in West End

The Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) responded to a fire at a two-story townhouse in the West End area of Alexandria, Virginia early Sunday morning.

AFD crews responded to the scene in the 1000 block of North Vail Street at approximate 0600 this morning.

Engine 208 and Truck 208 responded and the fire was under control approximately 1 hour later. The basement area in the building sustained smoke, fire and water damage.

Engine 208, one of the busiest units in the City of Alexandria, was the first due on the scene. The unit is typically staffed with three (3) firefighters as many Engine Companies are within the City. Typical staffing on an Engine Company is four (4) firefighters. This has long been a problem in the City which we have discussed on this blog for sometime and will continue to do so.
