After five (5) water main breaks on New Year’s Day, there is a new water main break this Sunday morning in the 200 block of South Payne Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia in the Upper King Street neighborhood.
We have heard from sources officials are investigating multiple reports of water main breaks around the City this morning.
Remember, water mains are more likely to break between November and February. In other words, we’re right at the height of water main break season.
Because of the extreme cold, Virginia American Water has asked for customers patience while they deal with the increase in water main breaks this winter.
Due to the weather impacting our service areas, our customer service (800-452-6863) wait times may be longer than normal. We appreciate your patience. Please use our interactive voice-response option. Many services can be completed w/out waiting to speak with a live rep.

Expect South Payne Street to be closed to thru traffic between King Street & Prince Street while repairs are being made to the water main.
