Francis C. Hammond Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia is being evacuated Thursday, January 18, 2018 due to a threat that ACPS does not know is credible but is treating as credible.

Police are currently on site and conducting a search of the school building.

Students are being transported on buses to T.C. Williams High School where they will remain until the school has been cleared by the Alexandria Police Department.

In an emergency, ACPS asks that parents do not come to the school unless specifically requested to do so. This can complicate the handling of an emergency situation. No students arriving from Hammond by bus may be dismissed from T.C. Williams until all students have arrived safely and have been accounted for. ACPS is hoping to clear Francis C. Hammond quickly and be able to resume classes later today.

This is a developing story and will update the post as more information becomes available.
