A purchase of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum from Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Authority stores from now through Aug. 31 will not only stock the bar with the popular rum but also benefit wounded U.S. veterans.
For the seventh consecutive year, Virginia ABC is partnering with William Grant & Sons, owners and producers of the 92-proof rum known for its smooth taste and natural vanilla and cinnamon spices, to give shoppers the chance to support the Aleethia Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit organization which assists injured troops recuperating at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center with short-term therapeutic recreation.
“It is quite an honor to have the opportunity to contribute to the Aleethia Foundation’s important work with injured service men and women,” said Virginia ABC Authority Board Chairman Jeffrey Painter. “I am pleased that through this partnership we have been able each year to generate significant financial contributions to this much-needed effort. I am confident that our customers will once again in 2018 make a big impact.”
William Grant & Sons will contribute a portion of proceeds from the sale of Sailor Jerry in Virginia ABC stores between May 1 and August 31. In 2017, the promotion ran from May through August, resulting in $828,339 in total sales and a $9,848 donation to the Aleethia Foundation in Virginia ABC’s name. Since the partnership between William Grant & Sons and Virginia ABC started in 2012, more than $50,000 has been donated to the nonprofit.
In addition to providing clothing, travel expenses for family members and assistive technology devices, Aleethia has offered Friday Night Dinners for more than a decade. These rehabilitation therapy dinners urge injured service men and women to take a first step out of their hospital room and into public life together with family members and other wounded veterans. The dining out experience helps them rebuild confidence, heal and assimilate back into society. Since 2003 Aleethia has provided more than 50,000 meals to injured service members and their families.
Painter will join the troops and their families for a Friday Night Dinner on May 11 at Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington.
“We look forward to continuing this partnership with Virginia ABC and growing funds to support injured service members and their families through the Aleethia Foundation.” said Amy Pastrick, William Grant & Sons’ district manager of Virginia.
