Photo: Walking on Ice in Alexandria, Virginia

The City of Alexandria, Virginia forgot to remove snow and ice from this portion of the Duke Street tunnel near the King Street Metro Station.

UPDATED (2:45 PM): City staff report the sidewalk has been cleared. Thanks go to City staff at the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities.

As part of snow removal, the City of Alexandria requires property owners to clear the sidewalks of snow and ice depending on the type of winter storm.

This past weekend’s storm was upgraded to Level 2.  As a result, the City gave responsible parties 48 hours from the end of snowfall to clear paths.  The deadline for this storm was Tuesday, January 15, at 11:30 p.m.

On this WMATA side of the Duke Street Pedestrian tunnel, which the City of Alexandria has responsibility for, it appears the City failed to meet that deadline and has violated its own ordinance. See the photo I snapped this morning.

To report a violation of the sidewalk ordinance in your neighborhood, please call 703.746.HELP (703.746.4357) or visit the SnowReport system.
