I am going to some of these great events this weekend in the Alexandria, Virginia area. What are you doing this weekend? Check out these events & more...

Tonight, I’m in for what looks to be a special night on the ice as the New York Islanders come to Town in Barry Trotz’s return to take on the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center. Puck drops at 7:30 PM. This leaves me very disappointed to not be able to see the great band Eddie from Ohio who take the Birchmere stage tonight (just a couple of hours left to get tickets!).

On Saturday, after going to the Old Town Farmers’ Market, I am going to try to check out the extended tours of the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum in Old Town. The Apothecary Museum offers extended tours each Saturday morning from November through February. This 45-minute extended guided tour begins at 10 a.m. each Saturday, with check-in opening at 9:45 a.m. The tour takes visitors into the historic retail shop and laboratory of the old pharmacy, offering guests more in-depth information and time for photos and questions than the regular 25-minute tour.

Then, while shopping at Giant Food at Alexandria Commons, I’ll be sure to drop off some non-perishable food items to the Port City Brewing team as they do their part to help our neighbors in need. They will be stationed outside the Giant on Duke St, close by the brewery, from 10AM-12:30PM collecting non-perishable items in support of ALIVE! While you stop in for groceries pick up a couple extra items and leave them with their team.

On Sunday, after brunch at our favorite brunch spot Atlantis Pizzeria & Family Restaurant, I’ll head over to Charles Houston Rec Center to take a deeper dive into the issue of the Amazon HQ2 and its arrival into our economy.  The program, sponsored by Our Revolution in Alexandria & Arlington takes a look at the issue and what it means for housing, transportation, infrastructure and jobs. Can we afford it? Listen to elected officials and a panel of experts, plus ask your questions directly to the decision makers.

Then its on to football, football, football (AFC Championship preview here, NFC Championship preview here). I’ll be watching the games at Mackie’s Bar & Grill. What’s your favorite spot to watch sports?

That’s my list. What are you doing this weekend?

Check out all of our fantastic list of upcoming events on our Facebook page and on our community events calendar.
